Sister Beth Calligraphy

About Me

I have been studying and doing calligraphy for over 20 years. Coming from an artistic family, when I was younger I hadn't found my true artistic ability.

During a school trip to the Blue John Mines, I came across a calligraphy set in the gift shop. So I began to practise and found I had a natural ability for the craft.

Why Sister Beth?

About 15 years ago I became a member of a medieval re-enactment society and I was able to demonstrate my craft during living history displays. To be historically correct for the 15th Century I created a character who would be able to read and write. So I became Sister Beth.

I then began to study more about medieval artwork, language, illuminations and the religion.

With growing support from my husband and friends within re-enactment and sponsorship from Duke Henry Plantagenet I began to trade as Sister Beth Calligraphy.

Over the years I have produced work for the The Museum of London, Discovery Channel, BBC and I also worked with The South Bank Show on a collection of programmes called History of the Written word.

Name Plaques - Loved ones name hand painted in illuminated letters

Coats of Arms - Have the arms of your family name hand painted and framed finished off with gouache and gold leaf.

Family Trees - Have you researched your family tree? Have your hard work displayed. Hand written on vellum and decorated in medieval illuminations and the family coat of arms.

Each piece is framed in a lovely wooden style frame. However pieces are available without frames.
